Google Intro Powerful Nexus 10 Tablet

Google has updated its blog with official details on the latest additions to the Nexus family - The NEXUS 10.

Nexus 10 is the newest tablet from Google. With the world’s highest resolution tablet display, all new multi-user support, immersive HD content and the best Google apps – Nexus 10 has something for everyone.

The Nexus 10 offers a 2560x1600 display resolution—the same resolution as 30" desktop monitors, and about 32% more pixels than a Retina-equipped iPad. The Nexus 10 has a pixel density of 300 PPI, which is notably higher than the 264 PPI of the iPad and roughly double that of Windows tablets like the Microsoft Surface RT and the Asus VivoTab RT.

Nexus 10 measures 8.9 mm (0.35") thick and weighs 603 grams (1.3 lbs). The battery is supposed to be capable of fueling nine hours of video playback and 500 hours of standby time. Interesting, the tablet's stereo speakers face the user instead of being buried on the back panel. Support for MIMO Wi-Fi has been integrated, as well.

Internally, the Nexus 10 features a dual core Samsung Exynos 5250 SoC clocked at 1.7GHz, a Mali T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 32GB of storage. A 9,000 mAh battery is also preset. Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and NFC radios are also included.

The Nexus 10 will start selling on November 13. Two versions will be offered: a 16GB model for $399 and a 32GB one for $499. Those prices put the Nexus 10 between the iPad and the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD.

All of the new Nexus devices will run Android 4.2, an updated version of Jelly Bean with support for multiple users. Apparently, you'll be able to switch users instantly from the lock screen. Android 4.2 also features a Swype-style gesture keyboard and an updated camera with a panorama mode. Google Now has been updated, too, with new cards that track flight information, restaurant reservations, and shipping details.

To do battle with smaller tablets like the iPad Mini and the 7" Kindle Fire, Google has added a 32GB model to its Nexus 7 line. The new device will sell for $249, bumping the 16GB model down to $199. There's also a $299 version of the 32GB variant with HSPA+ broadband built in. The 8GB Nexus 7 appears to have been discontinued.

Google Introduces Nexus 7 Tablet

Google just introduced its first own-brand Nexus 7” tablet. Manufactured by Asustek Computer, the Nexus 7 tablet comes with 7” display with 1280*800 resolution and is based on Nvidia Tegra 3 system-on-chip with four ARM Cortex-A9 cores (+1 low-power A9 core) as well as Google Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean” operating system. The device comes equipped with 1GB LPDDR2 memory, 8GB or 16GB internal NAND flash-based storage, 1.2MP front-facing camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC (Near Field Communication with Android Beam support), microphone, speaker, accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, GPS, 4325mAh battery and so on.

Unfortunately, the Nexus 7 lacks integrated WWAN support, which automatically forces the owner to rely on a nearby smartphone or Wi-Fi access point to connect to the Internet.

MikuMikuBench & RinRinBench for Android

MikuMikuBench is a free Android app that lets you benchmark your device by watching Hatsune Miku dance in sync to that addictive Nyan Cat song.

A frames-per-second count on top lets you know how well your device handles 3D rendering in real-time, and at the end of the song-and-dance you also get a benchmarking score that makes it easy to compare performance between devices.

When not running the benchmark test, you can also freely spin Hatsune Miku around, zoom in and out on the 3D model through “pinch” gestures, and put her in one of a variety of still poses or animated sequences by selecting something from the scrolling menu at the bottom.

There is also a Kagamine Rin version of this app, called RinRinBench, which is also free to download.

AMD Launches Trinity Mobile

Today we get official confirmation of the things we mentioned months ago, with the launch of two A10 CPUs, one A8, and two A6′s, all based on the new Trinity core.

The Trinity die itself has two Piledriver modules, that means four integer cores in total. Each one is an ‘enhanced’ version of the Bulldozer architecture, with updates that add up to a performance gain. That gain is not taken in the form of high clocks and single threaded speed, but in lower power for the same performance as the older variants.

That means energy use has been dramatically cut, so Trinity is almost twice the performance per watt of the older Llano CPU. That is why the mobile Trinitys come in 17, 25, and 35W versions, the older Llano had only 35 and 45W versions. Since AMD says Trinity has twice the performance per watt of Llano, a 17W Trinity should perform on par with a 35W Llano.

The models that are out today are the A10-4600M, A8-4500M, A6-4400M, A10-4655M, and A6-4455M. The first three are 35W, the 4655M is 25W, and the 4455M is 17W. A6′s are two cores, A8 and A10 models are four cores, and the lower wattages get LV and ULV tags for good measure. Base clocks range from 1.9 to 2.3GHz, and max turbo frequencies go from 2.6 to 3.2GHz. Similarly, shader counts come in three variants, 192, 256, and 384, basically three, four, and six VLIW4 64-shader arrays. Clocks on those range from 327-497MHz base and from 424-686MHz turbo.
